Edge Angle

The edge needs to be sharp enough so that it can be used to cut through roots with reasonable ease. The operator should be able to use it without overexerting themselves (and risking injury to themselves or others).

There are at least two variations to the cutting end as shown in the graphics to the right. In either case, the angle is denoted by α.

Ask the plants of the earth, and they will teach you.

If the area where this tool is being used has a lot of stones in it, the α may need to be increased. Something between 20° and 30° is recommended.

Alternatively, the sharpness can be decreased to 3, with a bit of a rounded-over edge.
